Joni Pires AKA DJ Joni P is a Durban based DJ who has made a huge impact on the Durban dance scene in the past 2 Years. His upbringing largely involved Durban’s nightlife. He frequented some of Durban’s hot spots where he soon became part of the “family”. Throughout his upbringing he has relied heavily on musical influences, he has ventured outside of his comfort zone in order to explore the beautiful world of dance music. His influences involve some of Durban’s Finest DJs, many who he now considers          friends. Joni P had the pleasure of growing up in an era of musical genius where clubs such    as 3-30 and Tilt were born. Being exposed to this clubbers playground ultimately created the everlasting desire, that burns so deeply inside of him, to be the best DJ to ever spin  his way out of Durban.                                                                                                                           Joni started his career at a very young age, his career choices seemed to push his musical career further into the background but he never gave up hope. 4 years ago he finally had the pleasure of buying his own equipment. With great enthusiasm he practiced day and night, refining his skills until he felt comfortable enough to approach his first club. His lifelong dream of being a Durban DJ was about to come true and he knew in his heart that there was one shot and one shot only and he was going to do it right!                                                                                                                             His lifelong aspirations were finally being fulfilled, he approached La Vida Nightclub and they agreed to give him a try but only for their quieter evenings. Joni P did not let this dampen his spirits, he went at it like his life depended on it and his unwavering enthusiasm paid off after playing just two sets! He was asked to move to Main set on the busier Friday evenings and soon after he was offered a residency, proving that his enthusiasm and skill would push him to the top. His fast rise to success gave him the confidence he needed to set his heart on bigger ventures.  Shortly after starting his professional DJing career he set his heart on playing at Durban’s biggest outdoor dance festival “Fun In The Sun”, he sent his demo in and many sleepless nights ensued, finally they contacted him to tell him he had been chosen! Since then the gigs have been rolling in and he has played for multiple events companies including, but not limited to,  FITS events, BassHead Productions, Base Drop Events, New School Productions and Ubercool Events. He has also had the pleasure of featuring at some of Durbans Hottest clubs such as La Vida, Rocca Bar, Empyre, Olmeca, Crush, Kokos, Lets Go and Origin.                                                                                Joni’s unique and versatile musical Style is largely influenced by Funky Tech house mixed up with a bit of minimal, Jacking  and  Dirty Electro. His ability to read crowds has left him with the valuable knowledge that versatility is the key to pleasing every crowd.                                                            Playing at such a wide range of Durban’s hottest events has opened up many doorways and allowed Joni to build a brand around himself. He can often be seen spinning the decks with his “Funky” contact lenses which have added the element of “theatre” to his performances. Joni P understands that for any performance to be great there must also be a passion which is instantly felt by any crowd, this knowledge has led him to be featured on 8 International Web Radio Stations.                                                     Joni has had the pleasure of playing alongside acts such as Ben Nicky from Tomorrowland, Dj Fresh, Pascal and Pearce, Lady Lea, Digital Kaos, Night Vision, Euphonic, Sebotage ( Belgium ) and Roger Goode to mention a few                                                                      A Big thank you needs to be extended to the companies which have been there pushing Joni to be the best he can be at all times.
